International Coastal Cleanup

Saturday, September 25th, 2010: International Coastal Cleanup (ICC)

For the past 25 years, the Ocean Conservancy has organized the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), which is a marine debris collection that has grown to over 6,000 sites worldwide. Last year, there were close to 500,000 volunteers and 7.4 million pounds of trash cleaned up in over 100 countries. Utah has taken part in this cleanup the last few years, but with little presence and impact.

Through collaboration with The Living Planet Aquarium, Friends of Great Salt Lake, and Great Salt Lake Institute, the ICC is going to be bigger and more effective than ever in 2010. Four sites in Utah have currently been chosen:

  • Great Salt Lake Marina
  • Jordan River Park
  • Jordanelle State Park
  • Legacy Nature Preserve

Lets work together to clean up the amazing and unique waterways Utah has to offer. With the help of donations and volunteers, the 25th ICC will occur on September 25th, 2010.

The Jordan River Location will contain educational booths and fun activities for everyone, so bring friends, family, and a love for this great state and its magnificent outdoors.

If you want to become part of this fantastic experience or want to set up a cleanup of your own, visit www.SignUptoCleanUp.org. Once you sign up on the website, email updates will be sent to you with further information on the day’s activities and location specifics.

Donations and volunteers need!

Details on each of the four cleanup locations coming soon!!
